Getting Information
One of the most frequent questions I get is how to find information to follow a promotion that takes place in a different country in a different language. This section assumes you don't speak Japanese, as if you do you can get news and results from the promotion's websites themselves. For starters, one of the best things when first starting out is to join a forum with a puroresu section. I usually suggest the Purotopia section of the Death Valley Driver message board, for a few reasons. First of all, I am a moderator there and can personally assure that the members that post there are very helpful to new fans and don't talk down to people looking for help. Fellow moderator David Ditch is the same way, and really the posters there very rarely need moderating as in general they are a great bunch. Results and explanation of results are also posted on different message boards as well and can be a great source of information. For daily results, the only site you need to know is www.purolove.com. It is puroresu's best kept secret in America since it is a German site, but English is a Germanic language and no one that knows English should have any problems reading the results there to see who won the matches. The site is updated every day with results from over 20 wrestling promotions, and I visit the site at least once a day to see if any new results have come in. He also has archived results as well, as well as title and tournament information. Of course, I have to promote my own site. On Puroresu Central I have in-depth wrestler profile pages for all the major promotions, and over 1,000 profiles overall if you need information on a certain wrestler. For the big promotions (which is where most new fans start) I keep the roster pages very updated and have recaps of past years for every wrestler to help explain any past feuds. There is also a search feature if you watch an event with a wrestler you don't know, and want more information on them. To watch events, many forums including Death Valley Driver have a matches section where you can download matches form the last and present to watch. Also, most wrestling torrent sites now have a puroresu section to download the latest events that take place in Japan. That is pretty much all you need to know for news and results. It can be a challenge, but since most feuds and matches are based in-ring and not outside of it, you don't have to worry about watching 40 minutes of confusing skits to try to figure out what someone is saying or why two wrestlers are feuding. Of course, if you have any questions while watching an event or don't understand why two wrestlers are feuding I can always be reached at purocentral@gmail.com.
